Bansko Among the Best in the World

The Bansko ski resort, located in the Pirin Mountain, is among the most popular resorts in Bulgaria and is the most popular Bulgarian resort among foreign tourists. In recent years, Bansko is often mentioned among the most attractive winter resort and found a place in many rankings because it offers great value for money, as well because of the excellent conditions for skiing.

Bansko offers ski pistes with a total length of 70 kilometres. The highest point of the skiing centre is at an altitude of 2,560 metres, while the lowest is at 1,000 metres. 100% of the pistes are equipped with snowmaking machines, which guarantees that there will be enough snow from December to May.

The skiing centre offers a wonderful 7 km long skiing trail, equipped with snowmaking machines and lighting, it connects the highest parts of the resort with the town of Bansko.

Bansko is located in Southwestern Bulgaria, 160 km away from Sofia, and 57 km away from Blagoevgrad. In addition to offering modern conditions for sporting activities, Bansko is a beautiful town which has kept its authenticity and its historic heritage. In Bansko, there is snow on the ground from December to April and most pistes are equipped with snowmaking machines too. Bankso‘s skiing zones offers very good conditions for both beginner and experienced skiers and snowboarders. The real challenge of the Bansko Skiing Centre is the Tomba Piste – the most attractive and difficult piste in the Bansko. It was tested by the person whose name it bears – the legendary Alberto Tomba as well as by other winter sports big names like Franz Klammer, Rosi Mittermaier and Marc Girardelli.

Races from the Alpine Skiing World Cup have taken place in Bansko, which is an indisputable argument for its qualities as a ski resort. Bansko hosted that event in the beginning of 2009. The World Cup brought to Bulgaria top skiers, including Lindsey Vonn, Anja Pärson and Tina Maze.

The pistes located above Bansko offer really wonderful conditions for snowboarding. The first snowboard fun park suitable for freestyle events. National and international snowboard competitions regularly take place there. In 2017 an event from the Snowboard World Cup will took place in Bansko.

The resort offers very good conditions and a base for paraskiing – a tandem flight with an experienced paraglider pilot. There is also an option for the skiers to be pulled by a kite, instead of a paraglider. Such extreme entertainments can be arranged if a booking is made in advance./Kmeta.bg
